MASQ Maq'ad of Sultan Qaitbey

"Yesterday, the streets of the Qaitbey neighbourhood in the “Desert of the Mamluks” filled with art and joy. The “Marble Crowd” group from Iceland gave around the complex of Sultan Qaitbey a street performance titled “Trash and Treasure”, following a participatory workshop with the children. Helped by the children, the “Marble Crowd” team made out of leftover trash costumes that were inspired by the stories of the neighbourhood kids and blended Egyptian and Icelandic folklore tales in their design. In the light-hearted performance, two Icelandic troll monsters wandered the streets to the tune of local Zaffa music, searching in vain for snow in Cairo.
Marble Crowd is an informal art collective ensemble based in Reykjavík, who have been working together in various line-ups for more than a decade, performing in Iceland, Germany, Finland, Poland, the Faroe Islands, and also in Egypt, where they gave a performance at MASQ in October 2019.
The team of the MASQ (Maq‘ad of Sultan Qaitbey) would like to thank all the children in the neighbourhood, all the families who enjoyed the performance from the balconies, the talented Zaffa artists, as well as the “Marble Crowd” team who all joined forces to present this joyful Treasure."
امتلأت بالأمس شوارع حي قايتباي في "صحراء المماليك" بالفن والمرح. قدمت فرقة "ماربل كراود" من آيسلندا عرضًا في الشارع بعنوان "مخلفات وكنوز" حول مجموعة السلطان قايتباي بعد ورشة عمل تشاركية مع الأطفال. صنع الفريق الآيسلاندي أزياء من بقايا النفايات بمساعدة الأطفال وبنى تصميماته من قصص مستوحاة من أطفال الحي ومزجوا حكايات الفولكلور المصري والأيسلندي في تصميماتهم. وكانت النتيجة عرض من الأداء الخفيف، تجول فيه وحشان آيسلنديان في الشوارع على أنغام موسيقى مزمار الزفة المحلية، باحثين بلا جدوى عن الثلج في القاهرة.
"ماربل كراود" هي فرقة فنية جماعية مستقلة مقرها في مدينة ريكيافيك، في آيسلاندا وقد عملوا معًا في عروض مختلفة لأكثر من عقد من الزمان، وقدموا عروض حول العالم وأيضًا في مصر، حيث قدمو أداءً آخراً في مقعد السلطان قايتباي في أكتوبر 2019.
يتقدم فريق مقعد السلطان قايتباي بالشكر لكل أطفال الحي، وجميع العائلات التي استمتعت بالأداء من شرفات منازلهم، وفناني الزفة الموهوبين، بالإضافة إلى فريق "ماربل كراود" حيث تضافرت جهود الجميع لتقديم هذا "الكنز" المبهج.
