TROLLS

Can trolls live alongside us without eating children?
Two trolls, one large and one somewhat smaller—each with a distinct personality—wander around the festival grounds.  They are Drumb and Nyrkur, representatives of the International Troll Council. They have called a meeting with the children at Kongsgården to discuss an important issue: there are fewer and fewer trolls! Why are there fewer trolls? Perhaps someone in the audience knows the answer?  Since the Troll Council of 1725, it has been illegal for trolls to eat what had previously been their most important food source—children! The trolls ask: CAN TROLLS LIVE ALONGSIDE US WITHOUT EATING CHILDREN?  Drumb wants to make it legal again for trolls to eat children. Nyrkur occasionally misses the taste, but has been a vegan for 150 years and thinks that perhaps eating children is not the right thing to do.  The two trolls lead a discussion with the help of an interpreter. Maybe it is wrong to eat children, but what should we do about the trolls then? Perhaps they could just eat naughty children? Or do you have a better idea?

“Troll” is a production created and performed by the Icelandic artist collective Marble Crowd.  The performance is part of Olavsfest’s free family program, KONGSGÅRDEN, taking place at Ytre Kongsgård every day between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from 28th of July - 3rd of August.

The project is supported by the Icelandic Artists’ Salary Fund, Rannís, and the Icelandic Ministry of Culture, as well as the Nordic Culture Fund and Nordic Culture Point - Culture and Art Programme. TROLL is produced in collaboration with Reykjavík City Theatre, Rosendal Teater, and Olavsfest.
